Review: Innovative undergraduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral research which combines biomedical research with new clinical treatment studies to fight the devastating, costly, and deadly diseases of alcohol and drug dependence. The Centre is recognised internationally for its work in to the physiology of the brain and changes in the brain that create vulnerability to relapse in early recovery. In particular, researchers are studying the viability of using new compounds, designed at the institute and elsewhere, to modulate the neurological effects of alcohol and other substances of misuse, reduce excessive intake, and prevent relapse by normalizing the brain during an alcoholic's or addict's recovery. The Centre runs regular presentations and seminars on campus. Addiction or behavioural research scientists from other campuses or regions are welcome to attend, and often invited to present.
