ADIN quality assurance

The Australian Drug Information Network (ADIN) is a central point of access to alcohol and drug information on the Internet. ADIN quality assurance ensures the delivery of credible alcohol and drug information to a wide variety of health care professionals, researchers and consumers. ADIN achieves this by combining the use of sophisticated Internet searching techniques with the expertise of senior drug and alcohol professionals.

ADIN's quality assurance instruments and criteria have been developed through consultation with and recommendations from key stakeholders at State and Federal levels as well as Internet user groups within urban and rural communities.

ADIN quality assurance emphasizes Australian content emanating from reputable organisations, such as Government departments, academic institutions, national peak bodies and organisations with expertise in alcohol and drug issues. Consumer feedback contributes to the evaluation and continuous improvement of ADIN to ensure that the community has access to information of the best possible standard.

ADIN excludes websites that promote the harmful use of substances, or the manufacture or supply of illicit or harmful substances. Additionally, websites that exhibit obscenity, deceit, racism, sexism or violence are also excluded. Every website searched by ADIN has been through a formal quality review process to provide ADIN visitors with search returns of optimum quality, relevance and usefulness.

ADIN ranking

ADIN ranks organisations according to the quality of the information they bring to the Internet about drugs in Australia. ADIN's default setting sorts the search returns into a prioritised form so that the most credible of the Australian organisations occupy the top positions on each screen. To turn off the ranking system, click "Disable ADIN Ranking" on the advanced search page before submitting a search.
